I have some great books on the Maya too. Very large site that is in old growth trees, it smells like copal. The whole area is full of ruins. I found the little town of Xpuhil a very charming place if you like raw wild west type towns. It looks like Escarcega did thirty years ago. The eco zone there is going to be a big draw in the future.
I have not been to Copan yet, it is on the bucket list along with a river trip into Dos Pilas area of Guatemala. Isla Jaina is on the wish list but it is not open to the walk up trade.
You spoke of reading up on the Maya, I bought a pretty good text the last time I was in Merida called The Ancient Maya by Sharer and Traxler. It was in a book store on a side street off the square. The ruins are why I come to Yucatan. Have you been to the sites down on RT.186? My next trip down I plan on at least two weeks in that area. I like your blog, it covers a lot of the things that I like.normhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04651902762232427335noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5542179327850698809.post-82148122761936074052009-05-28T04:07:12.909-07:002009-05-28T04:07:12.909-07:00I for one am ruin crazy, the more posts on that su...I for one am ruin crazy, the more posts on that subject the better.normhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04651902762232427335noreply@blogger.com
