Mayan Ruins
I am not sure if you are into Mayan ruins, or interested in my photo logs and tidbits of information about them, but I am trying to post more often on the Mayan Ruins Explored site. Today I posted Labná and last week Tikal, Guatemala. We try to visit the ruins on Sundays whenever possible. I changed the site from Lesser Known Maya Ruins to its new name and now have visitors from 13 countries. I was shocked. I think I am learning a lot about this blogging game, finally.

I for one am ruin crazy, the more posts on that subject the better.
I hit the link for the ruins site but it came up busted. The ruins are why I come to Yucatan. Have you been to the sites down on RT.186? My next trip down I plan on at least two weeks in that area. I like your blog, it covers a lot of the things that I like.

Rte. 186: Wow! NO! The west to east hwy quite far south of here...the road to Calakmul...
Not yet. Next time I have more than Sunday free we are heading down there.
Calakmul is the bomb, it is at the end of a 60 klick toll road in a eco preserve. Very large site that is in old growth trees, it smells like copal. The whole area is full of ruins. I found the little town of Xpuhil a very charming place if you like raw wild west type towns. It looks like Escarcega did thirty years ago. The eco zone there is going to be a big draw in the future.
I have not been to Copan yet, it is on the bucket list along with a river trip into Dos Pilas area of Guatemala. Isla Jaina is on the wish list but it is not open to the walk up trade.
You spoke of reading up on the Maya, I bought a pretty good text the last time I was in Merida called The Ancient Maya by Sharer and Traxler. It was in a book store on a side street off the square. In English to!
Bring on Copan.
I am chomping at the bit to head toward Calakmul and the other ruins around there. I have some great books on the Maya too. One I like is MAYA: KINGS OF THE RAINFOREST.
I will work on Copan.
